The Red-Tailed Hawk chicks are about 4 weeks old now and are strengthening their wings. They will leave the nest in about two weeks.

Christo and Dora’s Nest 6/2/14
The three chicks continue to advance and grow, though one of them is lagging behind in size. This was the first time I got to see them all at once.
Christo, Dora and the Kids
I set up my light weight tripod on Avenue B and pointed my camera at the nest. For the first hour nothing happened, but then the hawks woke up. The kids stretch their wings, projectile poop out the nest onto 9th Street and Dad (Christo) bring Mom (Dora) a rat dinner. It should only get more exciting in the nest over the next 3 weeks as they grow and strengthen their wings getting ready to fledge.
Junior League Volunteers in Tompkins Square Park
About a hundred volunteers from the New York Junior League came into the park today to work in the gardens and fix-up the 8th and B Playground (I call it the Oak Playground on my map).
